Programs
Our curriculum contains many elements, including the following:
Shaolin gongfu (kung fu)
We have integrated several aspects of the Shaolin family of systems into a comprehensive curriculum, including elements of the Shaolin five animals (as well as some other animal styles), yong chun (or "wing chun", which was the original style trained by Bruce Lee), longfist, and other family styles such as Hung Gar and Lau Gar. Some specialty advanced styles include Ditang Quan (ground fighting) and Fanzi Quan ("lightning" fist).
Praying mantis
We are especially proud to feature the praying mantis style (Tang Lang Quan) in its Seven Star and Tai versions, which is itself a combination of the best elements of 18 different Shaolin systems. This style is known for being extremely efficient, quick, and devastating.
Weapons training
In addition to teaching self-defense against common weapons such as knives, we also teach many of the classical Chinese weapons including the broadsword (dao), straight sword (jian), short and long cudgels, spear, kwandao, single and double chain whips, three-section staff, tiger hook swords, Shaolin twin daggers, and more!
Qin na (chin na) and San shou/Sanda (also available separately)
These are the Chinese equivalents to grappling, throwing, and kickboxing, similar to techniques found in aikido, judo, jiu jitsu, and so-called MMA (without the brawling). Our qin na (chin na or grappling) techniques range from non-lethal (perfect, for example, for teachers and law enforcement) to highly advanced (including pressure point techniques and artery sealing).
Internal training (also available separately)"Internal" training focuses on training the mind and developing awareness of spirit, similar to yoga with both stationary and moving postures. Our internal program is based primarily on Yang and Wu styles of taiji (tai chi) but also incorporates elements from other Wudang (such as Xingyiquan and Baguazhang) and Shaolin systems (such as White Crane). Taiji (tai chi) is practiced not only for those interested in improving their health and longevity but also by athletes who want to improve their balance, flexibility, and concentration.
